Healing Your Chronic Disease with Functional Nutrition Therapy

Do you have a chronic disease that you’ve been battling for a long time? You’ve been to multiple doctors but just haven’t gotten the answer you’re desperately hoping for. Well, you’ve come to the right place! I want to teach you how functional nutrition therapy can bring peace to the war you feel like your body is fighting.

Functional Nutrition Therapy

I am a firm believer in healing from the inside out. It just makes sense to me. Think about a cut. When you get a cut, yes you get a scab to protect anything harmful from getting in, but what you can’t see behind that scab is the healing taking place from the inside out. The scab and the skin on the outside is the last thing to heal. The goal of functional nutrition therapy is to help you heal from the inside out.

Our bodies are designed to thrive when given the right environment. When that environment is imbalanced in some way, thriving is hard to accomplish. When you work with a practitioner that uses functional nutrition therapy, like me 😉, you find out what your imbalances are and your own unique root causes to those imbalances.

Functional Nutrition Therapy and Root Cause Resolution

You may have heard the term root cause resolution. That’s functional nutrition therapy in a nutshell…looking for the root cause and resolving it. Root cause resolution treats the whole person and considers all areas of life including nutrition, environment, genetics, spiritual and social factors.

Healing Your Chronic Disease with Functional Nutrition Therapy

When working with a functional nutrition therapy practitioner, you will probably give a very detailed picture of how you got to the health state you’re currently in. When I have an initial meeting with my clients, we spend a lot of time digging into lifestyle, stressors and other factors they may not have known they would talk about with their dietitian. All areas of life play a part in your health, so balancing every area is equally important as the other.

Unlike the traditional medicine model where practitioners don’t have the time to hear the whole story, a functional nutrition therapy practitioner does. I spend 1.5 to 2 hours with clients on the first visit to help each person find their unique root causes and develop a plan for change.

Mindset for Working with a Functional Nutrition Therapy Practitioner

Our culture has become a culture of instant gratification. We order something on the internet and, for many of us, it’s at our door two hours later. Going to the doctor is viewed as something that should be instant gratification. And when we don’t feel better immediately, we’re heading back to the doctor.

But when dealing with chronic disease, you didn’t get in the health state you’re in instantly, so why should the thinking be an instant fix? The truth is, most of us aren’t introspective. We aren’t slowing down to take the time to respond to the body’s cry for help. Instead, most of us just panic and run to the doctor for a fix.

With functional nutrition therapy though, it’s not a quick fix (although, most people are surprised by how fast they start to feel better). Getting your mindset right to know you have to change your lifestyle habits to heal from the inside out is how the lasting health and true healing starts.

Before working with a functional nutrition therapy practitioner, get ready to address and change these areas of your life:

Functional Nutrition Therapy and Nutrition

What you eat is extremely important because you are made up of the food you eat. If the food you eat isn’t quality food and providing your body with the needed nutrients, you can’t function well and processes will start to have problems (aka symptoms).

Functional Nutrition Therapy and Movement

If you don’t move it, you lose it. Movement is vital to several processes in the body. You have to be moving properly and enough.

Functional Nutrition Therapy and Environment

We live in a toxic world!! Everyday, our bodies are under assault from an insane amount of chemicals. If not cleared from the body properly, they can build up and wreak havoc.

Functional Nutrition Therapy and Spiritual and Social

You may not think about your spiritual life and your social live effecting your health, but they do. These areas also need to be addressed when working with a functional nutrition therapy practitioner.
