Is It Anxiety or Is Something Seriously Wrong With Your Health?

At some point we’ve all experienced anxiety. It’s a natural part of the design of our bodies. It is meant to move us away from harm, to change habits, situations or thought patterns to prevent health problems down the road. But we don’t see it that way. We see it as a nuisance, bothersome and something else adding to our already stressful day.

The effects of anxiety are different for each person. For me, anxiety settles in my tummy. I get intense cramping and pain, sometimes to the point where it’s hard to even stand up. It took me a few years to figure out exactly what it was. I went to several doctors to find out what was wrong with me because I thought I had serious health problems. The worry of not knowing what’s wrong and thinking the worst, did not help with anxiety and made symptoms worse. In the end, I had to figure it out on my own because the doctors just didn’t know what to do after all tests came back “normal”.

Care Plan for Anxiety

Maybe you have been there too. I’ve helped lots of women who have debilitating anxiety think there is something else going on and that their symptoms can’t be just from anxiety. Because anxiety looks different in everyone, it’s hard to diagnose. Or the doctors may just say “it’s all in your head” but don’t give you the tools you need to tackle it head on. You’re just given medicine and sent on your way, but never given an anxiety management plan.

Symptoms of anxiety can be all over the board and include:

  • Feeling lightheaded, or dizzy
  • Feeling restless, or unable to sit still
  • Headaches, backache, or other aches and pains
  • Fast breathing, or holding your breath
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Sleeping problems
  • Fatigue
  • Trembling
  • Irritability
  • Feeling that something terrible is about to happen
  • Inability to stop worrying
  • Problems relaxing
  • Grinding your teeth
  • Feeling sick, nauseous or tummy pain
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Thinking over a situation again, and again
  • Worrying a lot about things that might happen in the future

You may have one or lots of symptoms caused by anxiety that lead you to believe something is seriously wrong and it can’t just be from anxiety.

It may be all in your head…but it may not

Anxiety really is just a symptom…causing other symptoms. Getting to the root cause is the only way to truly heal from anxiety. There are several root causes to anxiety. One being your thoughts, so it can be “all in your head”. But others include nutrient deficiencies and imbalances, diet imbalances, toxins, and nervous system imbalances.

Below are a few of the strategies to implement when getting started on an anxiety management plan.

Coping Statements for Anxiety

No matter if anxiety is triggered by your thoughts, or if it is a physical imbalance, your thoughts can run wild. It is helpful to know what negative thoughts you continue to tell yourself. There may be a pattern or theme to them, or they may be random negative thoughts. Whatever they are, they most likely aren’t the truth and therefore, aren’t helpful. Combating the lies you tell yourself with the truth will help you tackle the negative thoughts.

Journal your negative thoughts and beside them, write the truth or the positive. Meditate on the positive and stand up to the lies, don’t let them bully you any longer.

Foods to Avoid for Anxiety

As far as your diet goes, anxiety can be triggered by blood sugar imbalances, caffeine intake, nutrient deficiencies, or gut microorganism imbalances. Foods to avoid would include those that spike your blood sugar, have limited fiber content, and are not nutrient dense like sweets, high carbohydrate food, and processed foods. Also, avoiding caffeine may seem daunting but is extremely helpful for some people.

Calming Supplements for Anxiety

Supplements can really help to balance deficiencies and help ease stress leading to anxiety. I recommend several different supplements depending on the situation. You can find the link to the supplements I recommend here.
