There has just always been something in me that is really interested in “health food”. When I was in college, I would spend my spare time reading about healthy food and what it did to and for the body 🤓. After I got married, my happy place was the health food store in Ft. Worth because they had so many new options I hadn’t seen before. It was always fun for me to find something new to try.
Unfortunately, at that time, I was still buying into the notion that the processed food industry wasn’t all that bad. I believed the marketing on the front of the package that if it says it’s healthy, it has to be right? I would read the ingredients on the back of the label and even though I was a Registered Dietitian, I would have no clue what those words were. But I still trusted that the food was healthy…because it came from the health food store.
Functional Dietitian
It wasn’t until I started my functional nutrition training that I realized those ingredients I couldn’t pronounce were not there for my health. Instead, they increased my anxiety, bloating, gas, constipation, and tummy pain. My eyes were open to a whole new world…natural nutrition and holistic wellness.

Natural Nutrition
A former client once told me, “I now understand the body can do wonders if you provide it the best way to heal. I always thought the “damage was done” and there was no way to heal. But you have changed my mindset by giving me small things to adjust in my daily life where it’s not overwhelming.”
The traditional way of thinking is if you start having symptoms, (let’s say bloating, chronic fatigue, migraines, joint pains, and/or anxiety), you can go to the doctor to get a medicine to make the symptom go away, or at least get better. But is that really fixing the problem or just covering it up?
That’s the problem I saw when I went to the doctor with my symptoms. I didn’t want a life of medicine. I wanted a fix!
How to Heal Your Body on Your Own Terms (and Timeline)
Healing your body takes time…there is no quick fix. But with each small (or big) change you make, you’ll see improvement. Here are my top tips for a natural approach to healing:
Be Intentional
Being intentional means you’re making a choice and doing something on purpose and with meaning behind it. If you truly want to have enough energy to take you through the day and to the ballfield in the evening without feeling like you’ve been hit by a bus, then you have to stand firm in your choices. The choices you make have to be intentional. You can’t just fly by the seat of your pants and wing it, cause you will crash and burn with that afternoon Diet Coke!
Clean It Up
When I say clean it up, I mean in every area of your life! Clean up your diet (I know…what does eating clean even mean 🙄), clean up your environment, clean up your mind, clean up your entertainment, and clean up your relationships. Every area of your life effects how you feel. If there is something that needs refreshing, clean it up.
Get Support
Don’t try to do it alone. Lot’s of research shows that not having the support of others is a recipe for failure. Your support system will keep you going when your choices get difficult and you don’t have the motivation to do it on your own.
Support can come from your friends or a knowledgeable dietitian (see what I did there 😉). I am always here to help you get started or to help guide you with the changes you’ve already made. Respond to this email or send me a message if you want to chat. You can also schedule a call here.
It’s Not That Deep
My Jr High schooler says this all the time to me. At first I laughed at the saying, then I got annoyed the more she said it to me, now I like it. It just reminds me to brush off the little things. Don’t make mountains out of molehills. In other words, don’t turn the small issues into big ones. We borrow worry and create anxiety when we make small problems big ones.
I hope these tips help you out on your journey. As always, please share my website, emails and any tips you feel would help someone else.
