Why Is Using A Dietitian to Help Overcome Brain Fog Important?

There are several reasons it’s important to use a dietitian that is knowledgeable in helping you heal. Yes, you can do it on your own by searching the internet and following influencers on social media, but the down sides to that are many, including your time and money can be wasted.

I say this because it will take you a lot longer to figure out what works for you specifically when you are overcoming brain fog on your own. A dietitian is trained to know what questions to ask to get to your individual root cause and give you an individualized plan. Your time will be better utilized and you can heal much faster when working with a knowledgeable dietitian.

You can also save money. Yes, you will spend money for the time and expertise of the dietitian, but in the long run, you will save money by decreasing doctor’s visits, being able to come off medications and knowing the right supplements to take. If you are following an influencer on social media, or reading blog after blog about overcoming brain fog, that “expert” will be pushing supplements they are affiliated with. The more supplements they sell under their code, the more money they receive. And that supplement may not help you at all, wasting your time and money.

What Type of Dietitian Will Help You Overcome Brain Fog?

When looking for a dietitian to help you overcome brain fog, it’s important to know what to look for in his/her background or expertise. Each of us has experience and specialize in something a little different, so you want to make sure you are getting the right fit for you. Not all dietitians practice equally and you don’t want a dietitian that specializes in weight loss and fitness trying to help you overcome brain fog…she won’t know how to help.

I would definitely recommend finding a dietitian that is trained in functional nutrition and practices holistically. Overcoming brain fog or any chronic illness takes a much deeper dive into all areas of your life. You need for someone to look at the whole picture, not just a snapshot.

Overcome Brain Fog with A Dietitian

If you are interested in finding a dietitian who specializes in functional nutrition and practices holistically (and don’t want to use me of course), there are several ways to find a qualified dietitian. And if you don’t find one in your area, remember many dietitians practice remotely now so don’t give up. If you do find someone remotely, make sure you will get good quality time with that dietitian and you won’t just be following a program they developed without any one-on-one time (unless you know that going into it and that’s what you’re looking for).

How to Find A Dietitian to Help You Overcome Brain Fog

You can search for the terms Integrative practitioner/dietitian/doctor, or Functional practitioner/dietitian/doctor in your area to see if you have any local practitioners. Searching for a dietitian as opposed to another type of practitioner will ensure you have a strong focus on nutrition and will receive more guidance in this area. Many practitioners will just give a handout and not give individualized guidance on nutrition so make sure you know what you get in advance.

The Institute for Functional Medicine and the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy both have a practitioner search database. Practitioners who have completed the certification process and have requested their information be shared get listed in the database. Not all practitioners who have completed the training, though, will be listed because usually there is a certification route and a non-certification route. The only difference is a test at the end of the training. For example, I completed the training with the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy but did not do the certification, so I won’t be in the database.

You can join Facebook groups centered around certain disease topics to ask questions from others that have found healing with the advice from natural medicine practitioners. Lots of individuals have used the help of a dietitian so people in Facebook groups may have a recommendation.
